Boeing 40A
The
Boeing 40A was the first passenger aircraft built by the
Boeing company. It was of a biplane configuration, and powered by an air-cooled
Pratt & Whitney Wasp engine, which offered a 200 lb weight saving over an equivalent liquid cooled engine. The frame of the fuselage was constructed using welded steel tubing. The primary purpose of the aircraft was to carry mail, however 2 passengers could be accommodated in a small cabin.
